Molecular Data
Compound Overview
AOD-9604 is a modified 16-amino acid fragment corresponding to the C-terminal region (amino acids 176-191) of human growth hormone, with an added tyrosine at the N-terminus. Originally developed by Monash University in Australia, AOD-9604 was designed to isolate the lipolytic (fat-burning) activity of growth hormone without its growth-promoting or diabetogenic effects.
Reported Mechanism (Preclinical)
AOD-9604 mimics the lipolytic action of growth hormone by stimulating beta-3 adrenergic receptors on adipocytes, enhancing lipolysis (fat breakdown) and inhibiting lipogenesis (fat formation). Unlike full-length GH, it does not compete for GH receptors, does not affect IGF-1 levels, and does not impair insulin sensitivity. Research suggests it may also have chondroprotective properties, supporting cartilage repair.
Mechanisms described above are reported in preclinical (animal and in vitro) literature and have not been established for human use.
Key Research Highlights
- Reduced body fat in obese Zucker rats without affecting IGF-1 or insulin sensitivity (Ng et al., 2000)
- Stimulated lipolysis and inhibited lipogenesis in human adipose tissue explants (Heffernan et al., 2001)
- Demonstrated cartilage regeneration potential in osteoarthritis animal models (Stanton et al., 2005)
- Did not induce glucose intolerance or anti-hGH antibodies in human phase II trials
- Showed favorable safety profile with no effect on growth or carbohydrate metabolism
